Cape Town, South Africa – 4 March 2026

New Age Engineering Solutions and Allweld Nuclear and Industrial today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Africa Energy Indaba in Cape Town to strengthen collaboration in support of South Africa’s nuclear new build programme.

The agreement reflects a shared commitment by both organisations to contribute to the development of South Africa’s future nuclear capacity, following calls for enhanced industry collaboration at the Africa Energy Indaba 2026. Collaboration across the energy sector was a key theme of discussions at the Indaba.

This partnership also aligns with the objectives outlined in South Africa’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) 2025, which includes the development of 5,200 megawatts (MW) of new nuclear power capacity as part of the country’s long-term energy security strategy.

Combining Expertise to Support South Africa’s Nuclear Expansion

Through this MOU, New Age Engineering Solutions and Allweld Nuclear and Industrial will explore opportunities to combine their respective expertise and capabilities in engineering, fabrication, and nuclear-grade industrial services. The collaboration will further focus on strengthening local capacity, advancing technical cooperation, and supporting the development of a robust South African nuclear supply chain capable of contributing to the upcoming nuclear build programme.

The partnership underscores the importance of collaboration between specialised engineering and industrial service providers in supporting South Africa’s transition to a stable, low-carbon energy mix. Nuclear energy is expected to play a critical role in providing reliable baseload power while supporting economic growth, industrial development, and long-term energy security.

Advancing Localisation and Skills Development in the Nuclear Sector

Representatives from both companies emphasised that the signing of the MOU marks an important step toward positioning the South African industry to actively participate in the planned nuclear expansion programme. The agreement also reinforces a shared focus on localisation, skills development, and adherence to the highest nuclear safety and quality standards. As South Africa advances its plans to deploy additional nuclear capacity, partnerships such as this will help ensure that local industry is prepared to support the programme through world-class engineering, manufacturing, and technical expertise.

Further engagements between the two organisations will centre on identifying specific project opportunities, technical collaborations, and initiatives that will contribute to the successful implementation of the country’s nuclear new build programme.
