Executive Team

Joseph is a qualified Metallurgist and International Welding Engineer but has also completed master’s degrees in both disciplines (MSc in Metallurgy and MEng in Welding). He commenced his career at Mintek, advancing to Arccellor Mittal (formerly Iscor) and subsequently, he took on the role of Welding Engineer at Sasol. Joseph’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish New Age Engineering Solutions in 2003, where he actively participates in the strategic management of the business as CEO. He also has different business interests in the Engineering, Hospitality, and Financial sectors. Additionally, he contributes to the industry as a Board Member of the Southern African Institute of Welding (SAIW). He was elected President of the institute in 2020 and served in this role until 2024. He is also a member of YPO and Abundance A360. He is a visionary leader with a proven track record of driving organisational growth, establishing strategic direction, and fostering innovation. Joseph is known for adeptly balancing technical expertise with leadership acumen and transformative leadership to deliver exceptional results.

As Co-founder, Susan has played a significant role in building New Age Engineering Solutions up from the ground. To this day, she manages the administrative personnel to ensure strong back-office support that, in turn, enables seamless business operations. She is also responsible for growing the business through proactive business development initiatives. Susan has a particular passion for uplifting others along the way, and over the years, she has initiated a series of community development projects, including the company’s youth and internship programme, which was launched in 2016. Susan furthermore spread her entrepreneurial wings to the leisure industry, and her enterprising spirit and ability to conceptualise new ways to do things better, continues to add value for New Age Engineering Solutions’ colleagues and clients alike.

Nigel is a qualified Mechanical Engineer (BEng in Mechanical Engineering) who also completed the Nuclear Engineers Programme. He formerly acted as Principal Member of the Koeberg Operability Sub-Committee (KOSC) and Operating Review Committee (KORC). In addition, he has more than two decades’ experience in multifaceted aspects of engineering and maintenance, which among others include working as a Nuclear Operator, managing various departments at the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station, and finally advancing to Maintenance Production Manager. Nigel first joined New Age Engineering Solutions in 2015 as a Site Manager, and has since moved through the ranks swiftly, first getting promoted to Operations Manager then Operations Director and shortly after to Commercial Director, where he plans, develops, and implements growth and commercial strategies for the business.

Willie is a construction professional with over 25 years of dedicated service working in various sectors, including Infrastructure, Power, Petrochemical, Oil and Gas, Water, Health Care, Residential, Commercial, and Multi-storey High-rise Buildings within a multicultural, cross-border environment. He holds a B.Sc. Degree in Quantity Surveying, a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Willie has held the positions of Operations Director, Operations Manager, Construction Manager, Commercial Manager, Planning Manager, Project Manager, and Quantity Surveyor at previous companies. With exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, he effectively leads and manages high-performing teams and processes. He was recently appointed as an Operations Director at NAES, where he is primarily responsible for overseeing and managing the organization’s processes, focusing on analyzing and improving quality control, productivity, and efficiency across all business operations.

Witness is a qualified Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) Specialist who holds a BA Degree as well as a BA (Hons) in Environmental Management and completed the flagship SAMTRAC course in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Management. In addition to her academic knowledge, Witness brings more than five years’ practical safety experience to the New Age Engineering Solutions table, with first-hand knowledge of aligning processes to the NOSA safety system specifications in petrochemical and power generation environments. Our own inhouse sentinel of safety, she adds value through ongoing review, development, implementation and monitoring of onsite safety management systems, to safeguard our employees, visitors and contractors, in line with our clients’ specifications and the relevant OHS and associated legislation.

Jack is a highly qualified legal professional who holds BIuris and LLB degrees. Prior to joining New Age Engineering Solutions, he was an admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa where he practised for more than eighteen years. As Managing Partner of his own law firm, R.S Madzivhandila Attorneys, he acquired invaluable knowledge and expertise of all the legal aspects of managing business and industrial relations, including the likes of dispute resolution and drafting of contracts and documentation required for litigation and labour disputes. Jack furthermore continuously serves as a Board Member of at least three businesses, one of which is a non-profit company (NPC). Jack also contributes to our society by acting as a Commissioner of the Small Claims Court, pro bono.

Lionel started his career with an apprenticeship at Sasol 1, Sasolburg, and became a qualified artisan while earning a National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at Vaal Triangle Technikon through night classes. He later obtained a Master’s Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. His career progressed from a Senior Technician to an Area Engineer specialising in Rotating Equipment at the Natref Refinery. Lionel’s roles evolved through positions such as Senior Area Engineer, Divisional Manager, and Senior Divisional Manager, where he oversaw maintenance, safety and procurement, among other responsibilities. Climbing the corporate ladder, he reached executive positions, notably serving as General Manager at Sasol Synfuels and Vice President for Engineering and Central Services. Lionel has recently become a Business Executive Consultant at New Age, where he uses his extensive experience in engineering and management.

Ramaano David Booi is a qualified Accountant who holds a BCom in Accounting from the University of Cape Town. He started his career as a Credit Risk Analyst and prior to joining New Age Engineering Solutions, he worked as an Operational Manager for an accounting firm. On a day-to-day basis, David is responsible for oversight of the entire financial department, including the documenting of all financial transactions, as well as preparing, maintaining, and analysing all financial records to ensure statutory compliance and assist executive management in making sound financial decisions to ensure the financial health of the business.
